How should we choose a partner?
Use cards

Flip discs

Why bother

At the mini last night, I saw someone flip tails, then go to the heads group because he didn't like the partners that he might be teamed up with. A couple of us saw him blatantly do it. This is not the first time that I have seen this happen, nor will it probably be the last. I have seen more than one person do this before, on seperate occasions. If it is going to keep happening, then why don't we just have a "bring your own partner mini"?? Exactly.... because these minis are suppose to be about fun and meeting new people, and maybe a newbie gets teamed up with a pro and is hooked for life. Granted, it is nice to win one every once in awhile, but do you really have to cheat to do it?

Ok, enough ranting, my point is, Brad and I were talking during the round and he mentioned that Abilene uses cards to team their partners, which makes sense. Two black kings, two red kings, two black queens, and so on. It would take the temptation out of the equation. So, what does everyone think??

I'll bring a deck to every mini I go to.It just works out better and it is way faster than flipping as well.

I voted flip discs, just because you never know when cards will show up or not.

My suggestion would be to confront the person you saw doing it(or the next person)...Maybe not in front of the whole group the first time, but just pull them a side and tell em you saw what they were doing. "That you didn't want to say anything in front of everybody this time" But if it continued you would be forced to(or just tell me and I will do it, I think it's pretty obvious I don't care if I piss someone off..just look at my sig line). Then just keep an eye on it and if it does happen again. Say something like were'nt you this in front of the group?

I guess what I am saying is why not confront the problem, rather than beat around the bush. Cheaters should be outed...cause if they will cheat at flipping, what's stopping them from shaving some strokes(if they are outed, others will know to keep an eye on that as well)? Anyway the main thing is, you know there will be some minis that cards aren't going to show up to. Brad has to work late, JC's got the kid or a test, I've got the kid or what ever.

I guess we can go with whatever the vote turns out, and just flip when cards don't show. I'll put this into next week's weekly update and see if we can start with fixing the problem by letting everyone know "we" know it's going on, and that there is a vote going on to try and remedy the problem.

You're right, I am probably jumping to conclusions. We (the three that saw him flip) did say something, and made it obvious that we knew what he had done. I don't think it will change anything though. I was just making a suggestion. I am all for laying it out on the table and setting it straight, but I just don't think that it will work in this situation. The reason is because I have seen more than one person do it. Actually, more than two, and no telling how many others that don't get noticed. It is really not a big deal, it is just frustrating since we are there to have fun. And since I have seen it happen more than once, I felt that it needed to be addressed.

I agree that we probably won't always have cards. It just seems like the flipping thing can get confusing sometimes. I also thought about drawing #'s like we did on Memorial day, then just flipping when you get to your selected hole. But that would more than likely be confusing also. This is not something that needs to be immediately addressed, I just thought that I would throw it out there and see if anyone else feels the same way.

I am completely with you on it needs to be brought up and pointed out that it is known certain people are doing it. Gald to hear you guys did "out them" to some extent.

I say we let the vote decide...no better way to get a general idea of what everyone wants to do than to vote on it.(even if it does make you look like the bad guy, as was the case when we voted to stay with the league making the team or not a couple of years ago) So far cards are winning by a land slide....so we might as well try it if the vote holds up the way it's going so far. Majority wins, even if I am on the short side...I promise I won't get pissed because I didn't get my way!!

I guess I just never pay attention to what everyone else's disc are doing, at least not at minis in day light, I have seen it happen at night glow fore sure...heck it's how I probably won my first Crush night glow, 2 other guys(out of the 4 in our circle) were flipping to be partners, and I was just flipping to be flipping....ended up with Gordo and we killed it.

Anyway if cards win the vote...cards are the way to go. That will for sure show we don't want any fake flipping happening. Because you are right, we are suppose to be out there for the fun of playing a round with the guys(or gals if any showed). Not for the sole purpose of winning the money every wednesday.

I'm always carrying my Ript deck in my bag - those cards have suits and numbers just like a regular deck. Seems like there are several others who carry their Ript deck with them too, so I think the card solution would be very easy. It could also speed things up - Aces, Kings, Queens on a card; Jacks, 10s, 9s on the other.

Good Idea JC - it's just a shame we had to do this for a reason.

I don't really see it speeding things up, as you'll have to count cards and make sure there are the right numbers pairs seperated out each week. Then deal them out, then pair up with your partner, then return the cards. I don't think it could get much quicker than pulling out your putter and flipping it in the air. But I'm game for trying it....

You are right they are on there. I don't carry my ript cards with me ever unless it's Ript night. No need in carrying extra weight around.

Keep the votes coming....

I say taht we stick with flipping discs and just watch for people CHEATING. I will not have a problem calling someone out on it right in front of everyone as loud as i can so everyone knows who is cheating, the first time i see it. If they get pissed about getting called out on CHEATING, that is thier problem I don't want to play with CHEATERS anyways. Like Jason said if they are going to cheat at flipping disc who's to say they aren't shaving strokes. I mean come on it is a mini. I think it is bullshit that we even have to have this discussion.

By the way it wouldn't let me vote cause i am useing jason's computer and he has already voted, so add one to flipping.

I voted to use cards... just saying your gonna out them if they do it again wont necessarily prevent them from doing it. but if you remove the opportunity then there isn't a way for them to try and cheat the system.

It only makes since to use cards. You draw cards, then in numeric order you place the teams on the holes starting on hole one. It is very orderly by calling out each card seeing the team and then writing the team down and assigning the hole. Quick and simple.

Looks like cards may be taking the vote...It really will be faster once you figure it out...one person takes the money and another holds the cards..you pay you draw..pretty simple...

I don't think you realize how much DGers hate cheating. Once you are labeled a cheater, people watch you like a hawk. And it takes a looooong time to shake that "labeling". If it ever goes away, which I think it really doesn't. Just an example, we caught a guy cheating a couple of years back at a sunday mini. Like you could see the eraser marks on the score card where he had changed a 3 to a 2...just to pull himself into a tie for a $15 mini. Well a couple of weeks later, word had spread enough to were I was asked at a tourney if he was trust worthy, if he should be allowed to keep the card, and just how much they needed to keep an eye on him. That was with in a couple of weeks word had spread enough to make it to another town. Who would want that? Plus the fact that NO ONE wants to play with a cheater. So you basically get black balled from the regulars. Not that we could keep these kinds of people from playing minis, but enough people would keep an eye on them to prevent it from happening again.

At any rate, it looks like cards will win the vote....so let's try it that way. Doesn't really matter to me, as I won't be the one resposible for bringing them or handing them out. So all I have to do is be handed a card when I pay. No biggy to me..... I guess we've just always flipped since I have started playing minis, and it just seemed like the easiest thing to do. Maybe this will turn out to be easier.
