So are there any "special" people around here that have been invited to the PDGA World Championships? I just got an email telling me I have been invited...just curious how many others got it as well. Probably won't be able to go to a week long DG tourney, but it sure sounds fun.
Just did some looking around...I think the reason I got the invite was because I earned 1000 PDGA tour points last year. Mostly thanks to Am World Dubs.
Sure wish I could take off a week and go to this. I bet it would be an unmatchable DG experience.
Just got off the phone with Jeanne...I had sent her an email friday(that she didn't get until today) telling her I got invited. She said that was cool, and that she had heard other people talking about how they wish they could get invited. So I jokingly asked her if I could go....she said "I don't care, if you want to". :-O Still doubt I can pull it off, but now at least I am going to look into it....
You're looking at a good 12 hour drive if I remember correctly. It's been a long time since I made that trip, but I seem to recall Springfield took me just shy of 13.
Misti and I are going...I know theres a crew from Amarillo and Lubbock that are going too. Were going to stay in the host hotel (weve been saving for a year). Yes its expensive, but EVERYTHING happens at the host hotel....We stayed at the host hotel at 06 worlds in Tulsa and it was WELL worth it.
See the saving part is my problem...I've been saving for a few years to go to Europe...but with a kid that just isn't a reality at this time in our life...so we are going to the Bahamas, in June(10 year anniversary is April 17th). Then to turn around and spend $100+ per night in KC....well man I just don't know. Would definately need someone to help split costs, and I think there are only 4 people that got the invite from San Angelo. Patty has already told me a pretty solid no(but I'm still working on him), Brandn is probably a no...that just leaves me and Nick. I doubt Nick would have the money. So things don't look that strong for me to go....but I am not counting it out yet. Got till mid-May to decide for sure.
Good to know there will be a few familiar faces if I do end up going though.
I will be traveling with a tent and bedroll...I have already comfimed that I have free floorspace at the host hotel and if that backfires I can find a place to camp, but do not plan on paying over 100 a night. I am not afraid of driving from camp to course if need be. Last year at states I camped 30 miles away at a state park and got out cheap. The world is my hotel and it is free as the air you breath.
I am playing. dont think Misti is though. I understand about the money...it is pretty pricey. And we've had the advantage of planning to go and saving for a year. Worlds is definitly a one of a kind experience....combined worlds is gonna be fabulous.
I am not going to a tourney that I can't even play in, plus, the due date is later in July. You can twist my arm completely off this time satan, I ain't gonna give in!!

(waiving my hand jedi style) You want to go to Worlds JC.
I am not going to a tourney that I can't even play in,
Frenchie did it this weekend....and I'm pretty sure even though he didn't play he had a good time. Although I'm sure he would have rather played....But yeah I had forgot about when you guys due date was. That probably wouldn't work.
Well, well...well, things are looking up for this all this sudden. Jeanne was suppose to take a new job and wouldn't be able to take off this week so soon, but now she isn't going to take it. So now she says she will go to Worlds with me if I really want to go!!!!! Which I do!!!! We'd be taking Zoey with us, so that means one open seat for some one else...Patty, Nick????
Jerry, since you have been to this before....I need some advice and have a question. What is the field day? And is is something I need to see? http://kcworlds.com/2009-pro-worlds-schedule.htm listed on this schedule. Trying to figure out which day I would need to be there by...I don't think I'd need to be there on the doubles on Saturday for sure, and since the players meeting isn't until 7pm monday. I am trying to figure out if I'd need to be there sunday or if monday would be ok? Let me know your opinion please!
I guess you wouldn't HAVE to be there before the players meeting Mon. night. Field events are distance contest, putting, skills challenge, etc. So I guess it depends on how many of the courses you want to see before you actually compete on them. In Tulsa, I already knew 4 of the courses, so I only showed up a day before the players meeting. This year I will probably show up at least 2 days before, to play 3 or 4 of the courses. I would at least like to be farmiliar with some of the courses before I play.
So in answer to the question, the players meeting is the first thing you HAVE to be at. The rest depends on how much time you have before, money for extra hotel and food, etc. Dont worry, all the good stuff doesn't happen until after the tourney starts. Fly mart and the players party are great. Then, the semis and finals all day saturday. Gonna be huge!
