Update 2-17-09

Tuesday’s here and that means weekly update time again. This week in disc golf we’ve got a Saturday mini, and a Sunday skins round. The 7th Annual Crush on the Concho is just around the corner, and there are several things to keep in mind as we get closer to the tourney. Plus we are still signing up 2009 CVDGA Club Members. Also there is a tourney in Junction coming up next weekend.
MINIS

First the minis: This being the 3rd week of the month means it’s time for another ASU singles mini. This will probably be the last scheduled ASU mini of the winter schedule. So if you want one more chance to win at ASU this winter….this weekend is your chance. Teetime is 10:30am, and it is $5 to play with an optional $2 ace pot. If no aces are hit there will be a throw off for the ace pot money.

Then Sunday is set for the last skins match of the year. The last 2 weeks turnout has been up for the Sunday round, and could turn into a $5 doubles round, instead of singles 25 cents a hole skins match. Either way there will be an optional $2 ace pot at this one as well, again if no aces are hit there will be a throw off after the round.

As an added incentive to go out and play the lake course this weekend, all moveable baskets have been moved one way or another. So if you’re looking for something new to throw this will give you that feel.

7th Annual Crush on the Concho

As most everyone knows the Crush is just around the corner, March 14th and 15th to be exact. There are several things going on right now to get prepared for the CVDGA’s biggest event of the year. The custom stamped disc order has been sent off, and should be in, in a couple of weeks. The artwork has been finalized and is getting ready for printing. Trophies are being built. And online registration has opened. While it’s not mandatory to sign up online, we are strongly suggesting it. For one it not only reserves your spot in the tourney, but it also secures your t-shirt size(along with a player pack) as long as you do it before the week of the tourney. Plus it will really help out the TD and people doing the signups come Saturday morning to stay on time. Registrations are starting to come in so get signed up here: http://www.pdgasignup.com/Qstore/Qstore.cgi?CMD=011&PROD=1233313366

We are also having a work day out at the lake course on Feb. 28th. Things that will be on the agenda for the day are to get any rutted out teeboxes moved to a new spot, fix any pin placements that may have been hit by the mowers over the last year, empty the trash cans (along with pick up any trash on the ground), get the final 9 layout set, and design the alternate 18. The work day is set to start at 9am. So if you can help we’d sure like to have it. There is a second work day set up for the next weekend, and will happen if needed.

We are also actively hunting sponsors, and people to go out and help look for them. There have been several come in, but we could still use more. This tourney isn’t cheap to put on!!! So if you can get out there and hit up your boss or that friend that owns his own business….The worst thing they can do is tell you not this time. We are doing 2 different sponsorship packages this year. The first package is $50. With that you will get a logo on the back of the T-shirt, and your name mentioned at all the players meetings throughout the tourney. As well as be listed on the CVDGA site as a tourney sponsor. The second package is $100 this gets you the same thing as the first package, logo on the shirt, name mentioned and listed on the site, plus it gets you a hole sponsor sign. That will be put out on the teebox of a hole so everyone sees it as they come up to tee. So what are you wanting for…get out there and get some sponsors rounded up. Deadline to have the sponsors in is March 4th. That’s 2 weeks!!! If you need a flyer to present to the people you are asking just swing by the shop and pick some up, they are on the “collector disc table”. Or I can email it to you if you have the ability to print it out yourself.

CVDGA MEMBERSHIPS

The CVDGA membership list is growing almost daily. If you have not gotten signed up for the 2009 year, now is the time to do that. CVDGA memberships run from February to February each year. Cost to become a member is only $10 and that gets you 10% off discs at both local stores (Cortese Flag & Beluh 42). You can also sign up at either store. There is a current membership list on the CVDGA DISCussion board under the 2009 board members thread. I think we are at about 18 members, let’s get that thing to growing!!!

Also if you want, there are 2009 bag tags still available for purchase at Cortese Flag. This is a great way to spice up that around between friends, and create some bragging rights when you take that lower tag from your buddy. Costs for the 2008 tags are $10…..that money goes straight to the club.

Both of these are club items; please bring in cash or a check to pay for them. I can not run your credit/debt card to pay for either of these as they are not Cortse Flag sales (the IRS has their rules…)
