Weekly update time is here once again, and boy do we have a mini to look forward to this week! We’ve got 3 minis in town this week. The next BIG event for the area is set for Levelland in a few weeks. Plus I’ve got some dates you might want to save on your calendar for up-coming events both here in San Angelo as well as the surrounding DG area. Also want to wish everyone a happy and safe 4th of July weekend….HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!!!!
Before we get into the weekly update I would like to congratulate several CVDGAer’s that went up to compete in the Abilene Wild Hair this weekend and came away in the payout. Carly Edwards took 1st place in the INT. Women’s division holding on in the last round to win by 1 stroke. In the INT men’s division we had several make payout. Topping the list was Matt Harris who took 1st place as well by just 1 stroke, followed by Tako in 4th, Jonathan in 7th and Robert in 10th. In the advanced master division CVDGA member Junior Hernandez took 3rd place. In the advanced division Kirk Trevena was the only one to make a payout spot holding on to the 10th spot, but Mike Keane also deserves some congrats as well. While he finished just a little out of the payout in 14th, he ended his weekend an ACE on his last hole. Not a bad way to end it….Carl Wamsley also finished up his weekend in the payout taking home 2nd place in the Open Masters division. Not to bad of a weekend of the CVDGAer’s that made the trip up this weekend, way to represent guys and gal!
MINIS
The Women’s Mini is set for a round at ASU tonight. This is a special mini for their schedule that only happens on the 5th Tuesday of the month. Teetime is 6pm.
Wednesday’s mini is also a special one with it falling on the 5th Wednesday of the month. Most everyone knows and a lot of people are looking forward to another round of “Get Ript” Wednesday. For some, it’s coming at just the right time(blais). Teetime is set for 6pm and we’ll decide if we want to play doubles or singles when the money is collected. There is also a possibility that we may end up setting up and play the backwards design this week….so don’t miss out the next RIPT round isn’t until September!
Saturday we’ll be at South Concho for a round of handicapped Singles. 10am teetime for this one.
Sunday there is NO MINI, as the lake course will stay pulled through the holiday weekend.

CVDGA ACE RACE
This year’s CVDGA Ace Race is being held at the Lake course on August 7th. This is a pre-registration only event, with registration closing 2 weeks before the event date. Which means pre-registration should start fairly soon.
For those that don’t know what the Ace Race is: It’s a tourney where you only throw 1 shot per hole, you either hit and ace, hit metal, or hit nothing. And that is exactly what you write on the score card. A, M, or leave it blank. The person with the most aces at the end of the event wins. In the case of a tie, metal hits is the 1st tie breaker.
So all you do is sign up for $25 and you will receive 2 new proto type Discraft discs(that must be used during the event), a hat, and a mini.
The course will be shortened to all ace run holes, and from the sound of it, no water will come into play
We’ll play 4 rounds of 18 holes(but remember it’s only 1 throw per hole…so really that isn’t much)
There will be a $5 ace pot.
More info as it becomes available.
West Texas Doubles Championships
While it’s still a little ways off, it will be here before we know it. This year’s W.T. Doubles will be held on September 18th & 19th. So don’t wait till the last second to find a partner. This event blew up last year as far as entrant…so hopefully we’ll continue to see increased player counts for this event.
All divisions will be offered as long at there are at least 3 teams signed up in them.
Open
Advanced
Intermediate
Novice
And the ever popular Mixed Double division
